History of Blacksburg

Mildly profane, but wickedly funny.

We had two feet of drifts half way across the street this morning in our neighborhood.  Someone sent me a news clip from Minnesota where they were claiming they had trouble finding places to put plowed snow, and that the piles of snow were "6 feet high."  Huh.  Buncha pikers up there in Minnesota--we've got snow piles 10 feet high.

This blizzard of '10 will be one for the record books.  Unless I'm wrong, we have not had this much snow since the winters of '94 and '95.  The Around family survived the blizzard of '94 quite nicely, as we were living the wilds of Craig County.  Our power went out like everyone else's, but I just threw another hickory log into the wood stove and opened a window because the house was too hot.  Water?  Melted it by the gallon on top of the wood stove.  We hardly noticed the lack of electricity.  In Blacksburg, the power was out for days and the water system stopped working because there was not enough generators to keep the water pumps running.  Pipes froze, people got really really cold, and mayhem ensued.
