Town updates brush pick up dates

Changes to Brush Collection Begin July 1

Beginning July 1, monthly brush collection service in Blacksburg will be reduced to twice a year, during spring and fall clean up. The change will address budget shortfalls and result in an overall annual savings of $117,000.

iPod registry to deter theft?

Police in Portsmouth, New Hampshire have started an iPod/MP3 player registry to deter thefts of the devices in the local high school.  This would be good thing to do in Blacksburg, as there have been numerous thefts of the devices at BHS.

Still weeks away, The Blacksburg Fork and Cork already appears to be a success having drawn in vendors, wineries, chefs, artists, and others from all over the region.

Have you heard about the Colosseum in Blacksburg yet?

Managed by Salamander Hospitality, The Colosseum in Blacksburg will be Virginias first "Luxury Sports Condominium Hotel". Back in September of '08 the Colosseum celabrated it's ground breaking ceremony, and the owners plan to open its exclusive doors in the spring of 2010. The rate of a penthouse suite is projected to be as much as $899 depending on seasons (football) and events (games).

Community Arts Information Office opens in Blacksburg

Newly renovated space next to the Lyric Theatre on College Avenue is now home to the Community Arts Information Office. The Roanoke Times Current has a lengthy story on the new venture, which is intended to help make downtown Blacksburg more of an arts destination. The space provides an office for the Lyric and for the Downtown Merchants Association, and additional spaces are available for rent to other nonprofit arts-related organizations.
