VA - Virginia Tech Airport

Bad news, Blacksburgians. The groundhog has spoken, and we are in for six more weeks of winter. It happens to be snowing right now, but it is supposed to change into the more typical winter in Blacksburg weather later today: 35 degrees, damp, bone chilling cold, and raining.
I was in New Hampshire last week, where the locals were excited that it was warming up to zero from overnight lows of -8 degrees and wind chills of -22 degrees. One thing I've learned about visiting New Hampshire in the winter: don't go outside without a hat. Everyone up there has a hat, and yes, everyone has hat hair. All day, every day, everyone has hat hair; but they don't have frostbitten ears. When the wind chill is -22, your ears get cold about twelve seconds if you don't have a hat on. I pumped a tank of gas once without a hat when the wind chill was -17 and I thought I was going to have to take myself to the emergency room my ears hurt so badly.
But back to Blacksburg. This nice white fluffy snow, if it warms slightly and rains, will turn to one awful mess of slush that will be re-freezing every night for the next week. And that's not the worst of it. I know there are a lot of parents who are very unhappy that schools are closed again today, and will likely be two hours late tomorrow.
Yep. Six more weeks of winter....gonna be long time til spring.
