Well, we hit the new Hokkaido Buffet for lunch today. It was the first time I had been there since it opened. The first surprise was the new floor plan. There is nothing left from the old El Guadeloupe interior--they gutted the place.
The new decor looks great--bright, wide open, clean, and upscale. And the food was terrific. We all got the Mongolian barbecue, and everything was fresh and delicious. If you are not familiar with Mongolian barbecue, you pick your own ingredients (meat, vegetables, and sauce) and they cook it up on the spot.
But the regular buffet is enormous. A wide variety of Chinese selections, and some kid-pleasers like fried chicken and French fries. And there is help yourself sushi, with enough assortment to satisfy everyone except sushi snobs. There is also a good assortment of desserts, including my favorite, which I call "Chinese doughnuts" because I don't know the correct name.
This is a great lunchtime option because you can get in and out fast, and for dinner, you can take your time and sample a wide variety of good food.
